Duck Tales: Helsinki
Upon arrival in a hotel room that reeks of a cigarette hotboxing experiment, the Ducks embrace irony. From irony onward to glasswork misogyny, two rattled ducks seek comfort from the Finnish Mothership, and two more rejuvenate in the shadow of an ice installation.
In a much more wholesome turn, the Ducks follow the Queer History pathway of the Escape to Moominvalley exhibit, channel their inner Pikku Myy, stare down creatures of mystique through the grates, and top off the afternoon with moomin-themed pulla. They linger at the Craft Punk textile exhibit for a bit, try their hands (or, rather, their webbed feet) at crochet, visit some cathedrals, remember that they are much closer to Russia than they ever imagined they would be when they read “War and Peace” in their youth, and marveled at the facial symmetry of Sibelius.
Finally, the Ducks meet up with friends at Harju 8. Though they begin the evening with hopes of temperance, the venue insists on spinning by the end of the night.
